Tayammum (Dry Ablution)

(I) Description of Tayammum [1] The description of it is: To strike the wholesome sa’eed[2], which is the surface of the earth with his two hands once, and then wipe with them his face and hands[3]. And that is for the saying of the Prophet blessings and peace be upon him) to ‘Ammaar: “it would have been enough for you to do like this, and he struck the floor with his hands and wiped.[4]” And if he made tayammum with more than one strike or wiped more than once, it would be permissible. (II) Its Conditions And it has four conditions: (1)  [...]

Ibn Taimiyyah: A Better Way to Divide Recitation of the Qur’ān over a Month

Ibn Taimiyyah (رحمه الله) described a 29 day schedule for completing recitation of the Qur’ān closer to the way the Companions did that. He said: “…Division by complete surahs takes precedence over division by parts [based on letter count].” (412) And from the great advantages of division by complete surahs, he mentioned (414): Reciting speech whose parts are connected, one part with another; Beginning [one’s daily recitation] with that which Allāh began a surah with; Finishing with that which He finished with; Completing what was intended [to be completed] from every surah. The chart in Arabic below [checked but not produced by me], shows [...]

The merits of Khadijah, the Mother of the Believers, (may Allah be pleased with her)

All praise be to Allah and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone who has no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. These are selections from the biography of the Mother of the Believers and the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was born 15 years before the Year of the Elephant and was one of the honorable women of Quraysh. When she had grown up, she was known with "the chaste" because she refused to do as the women of the [...]

Hijra – Emigration

Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ trust in One God Allah, was absolute and had never caused him to drift with the tide of events. Revelation of the Quran had reminded him that he must never forget to say “Insha Allah” (If God so wills) when he planned to act, and that the memory of God must be associated with humility, (especially in regard to his own powers as a human being). Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had been planning a Hijrah (emigration) to Medinah for almost two years, and nothing had been left to chance. Only after making intelligent and careful use of his human powers had he trusted himself to [...]

The Ruling of Reciting Surah al-Fatihah in Prayer

The opinion of the majority of the scholars, amongst them Maalik, ash-Shaafi’ee and Ahmad (رحمهم الله), is that it is obligatory to recite al-Fatihah in the prayer and that the prayer is not valid without it. Their opinion is based upon many proofs; from amongst them the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ,  “There is no prayer for the one who does not recite the Opening of the Book.” [Reported by Saheeh Bukhari [Eng. Trans. 1/404 no. 723], Saheeh Muslim [Eng. Trans. 1/214 no. 771]] “Whosoever performs a prayer in which he does not recite the Mother of the Book then it is deficient, it is deficient, it is deficient, it is [...]

The Battle of Badr

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. The battle of Badr was the most important among the Islamic battles of Destiny. For the first time the followers of the new faith were put into a serious test. Had victory been the lot of the pagan army while the Islamic Forces were still at the beginning of their developments, the faith of Islam could have come to an end. No one was aware of the importance of the outcome of the Battle as the Prophet ﷺ himself. We might read the depth of his anxiety in his prayer before the beginning of [...]

The Sunan Acts of the Prayer

1. The opening call of the prayer. 2. Placing the right hand over the left one with both over the chest while in the standing position. 3. Raising the hands up to the level of the shoulders or near the ears with the fingers being close together (not separated) when saying Allahu Akbar at the beginning of the prayer, when performing the Ruku, when resuming the standing position after Ruku, and when standing to begin the third unit of the prayer. 4. Saying Subhana Rabbi Al-Adeem and Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la more than once in Ruku and Sujud, respectively. 5. Saying Rab [...]

Prophet’s Guidance in the Eid Sacrifice

- The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never missed offering the sacrifice. He used to slaughter two rams after Eid prayer. - He ﷺ said: “All the days of tashreeq[1] are days of slaughter.” - He ﷺ said: “Whoever slaughtered before the [Eid] prayer has not done a sacrifice; it is only some meat he has presented to his family.”[2] - He ﷺ told them to slaughter a six month old sheep or a five year old camel or a cow that had begun its third year. - It was his guidance to select a good animal for sacrifice without any defects, and he prohibited offering a sacrifice with [...]

The frankness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) (1)

There are many incidents and lessons in the biography of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which is an educational school from which Muslims inspire in every time and place the rulings and guidelines which suit them. I wish there had been an objective study to the biography of the Prophet [I mean dividing the Prophet's biography into topics] as (the topics of Tafsir) in which incidents and events are arranged according to their topics not according to time such as the topic of Jihad, Salah, manners, creeds, transactions, and other issues, then commenting and benefitting from them such as Fiqh-us-Sirah [understanding the Prophet's biography]. This [...]

Zakah

Zakah is an obligation that was proven by decisive proofs from the Qur'an and the Sunnah then the consensus confirmed its obligation. The Lord of all the Worlds has undertaken to explain its ways of spending and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) explained most of its details. Zakah is one of the fifth pillars of Islam because it was connected with Salah more than several and thirty times in the Glorious Qur'an. Zakah is part of the general finance system in the treasury of the state whether in resources or channels of payment. Therefore, our scholars divided Bayt-ul-Mal [...]
